Max Gaz R404A - Industrial Refrigerant Gas

R404A is a refrigerant gas blend formed by combining three different HFC gases – R125, R143a, and R134a – in specific proportions. It has been a standard in the commercial and industrial refrigeration sector for many years, widely used especially in low and medium temperature applications.

R404A offers high cooling capacity for supermarket display cases, industrial cold storage warehouses, freezers, blast chillers, food preservation equipment, refrigeration cabinets, and two-phase chiller and VRF systems. With an ozone depletion potential of 0 (ODP 0), it is environmentally much safer than older generation gases like R22. However, due to its high GWP value (≈3922), it is subject to certain restrictions under F-Gas regulations. Therefore, while the transition to low-GWP alternatives is becoming widespread for new installations, R404A continues to be used in existing systems depending on technical requirements.

Since R404A is a zeotropic mixture, its components behave differently during evaporation and condensation processes. For this reason, gas filling, transfer, and recovery should only be performed by authorized and trained technicians. Improper interventions can reduce system performance or damage equipment.

1. What is R404A?

2. Where is it used?

3. Are there alternative gases replacing R404A?

7. What is the GWP value of R404A?
The global warming potential (GWP) of R404A is approximately 3922. Therefore, its environmental impact is high, and it is subject to some restrictions in F-Gas regulations. Recovery and correct use are important. It is no longer preferred, especially in Europe, due to its high GWP.

8. Does R404A operate at high pressure?
Yes. R404A can have high-pressure values in low and medium temperature applications. Compatible hoses, connections, and pressure-resistant equipment must be used.

9. What should be done in case of a leak?
If a leak is detected, the system should be shut down, the area should be well ventilated, and an authorized technical service should intervene.
